Emily Lately

Lots of little things going on that aren't big enough for a solo post, but can be combined into some bullet points to make post with a little more substance.

Here we goes:

• My cousin Alex is getting married in a few months, so she had a bridal shower a few weeks ago. I got to see all of my girl cousins that I grew up with and used to see every Sunday at my Grandma Primer's house. We don't see each other often enough. I'm really looking forward to her wedding! It will be so much fun!

• I went ahead and stayed in Piketon that night because our family reunion was the next day. So Saturday night I went to dinner at Ritchie's with my Pop and his co-workers were there and bought me drinks. How nice of them! :)

• I went with Tyler to watch the Waverly Alumni Soccer game. I sat with Erin (and Baby Snod) while Tyler sat with the alumni team. Next thing I know he's in the game and playing. He didn't even go to Waverly!

• Last Sunday was the Thompson Reunion. We had a Homemade Ice Cream contest. We had five entries, which is pretty good, IMO.

• Bowie had a vet appointment on Saturday morning as well. She's healthy and has her shots now. She also still doesn't have feline aids or leukemia. (Long story about why we had to get these tests done multiple times). We got back in a few weeks. Then this fall she'll get spayed. :(

• I stopped at the flea market in Piketon in search for a small cabinet to use as a litter box holder and found this kitten for sale. She almost came home with me. Almost. She was so pretty.

• School started this week, so it was craziness all week. Thursday evening I met some former co-workers at Grandview Cafe for a few drinks. I love getting together with them. I'm so happy to have made such good friends while at that job.

Why do I always take pictures of my drinks?

• By the time Friday rolled around, I was ready to relax. I had made plans to go out with Alicia and her friends at this place in Powell. Honestly, I could have gone to bed because I was exhausted, but I'd been looking forward to going out for weeks and I was not going to be a bum and stay home and go to bed. So I went and I had a blast. Alicia and her friends are all so fun.

• Saturday was my Junior League orientation meeting. I felt like a college freshman on the first day of school. So awkward. Then all the people at my table that were first year members like me didn't show up. Great! 

• Bowie's doing great. She's getting big and is so funny. I wish she was still little, but slept all night like she does now. I'll have a post of pictures just of her soon. Ha. I'm that crazy cat mom.

• Saturday night I went shopping with Brittany and Jenny. Love those girls. We all met through blogging and I'm so glad because I really like hanging out with them. We had dinner at BJ's, where Britt had a bug on her sandwich!!!! And she didn't even get it for free!!!! But we sat and talked and didn't even leave the restaurant until after 11. Two late nights in a row for this girl. I'm usually in bed so early!
  
• Sunday I spent the day at Indian Lake. A few coworkers live there and invited us all out for a day onthe lake and dinner. It was fun to go out, because I'd never been on a boat before. I even got to go tubing. It was a blast. I wish I could spend every weekend like that! That would be heaven.

Chicago Cupcakes

On recent trips to Chicago, I made my rounds to a few different cupcake bakeries. Yes, there are bakeries that only sell cupcakes and they are genius! And delicious.

I'd been to Sweet Mandy B's in Lincoln Park quite a few times since the sis lives just a few blocks away.

When Brittany and I visited she wanted to go to Sprinkles and we also randomly ran across Magnolia Bakery.When I went with the girls we hit up two of the three! Cupcakes are just amazing!

Brittany got white cake with chocolate buttercream icing. I got chocolate cake with buttercream icing. I could have eaten this icing with a spoon. (Mine melted a little during our walk back to the hotel!)

Magnolia Bakery was good. They get the award for the best decorated shop. Seriously. The. Cutest!

The second cupcake shop we visited was Sprinkles. It was small and we got there pretty late in the day - 15 minutes before it closed - so there was no wait at all.

It's owned by the lady judge from Cupcake Wars. So it's kind of a big tourist attraction.

Sprinkles gets the award for having the cutest spoons - wooden with their name! - and just overall packaging. Plus, I was in LOVE with the chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing. AND THE SPRINKLES!

The last place we tried was Sweet Mandy B's. I'd been there a handfull of times since it's just down the street from my sister's place.  

We picked up a lunch date. She had to take her backpack with her since Britt and I both had purses! :)

Ummmm..... yum! I think I had the mint chocolate one, but I can't remember. I also had a peanut butter one. OMG!

Since I've had Sweet Mandy B's so many times, I'm a little more likely to lean towards that one as my favorite, but can you really go wrong with a cupcake? And the icing they all have I could just eat with a spoon!

Five Question Friday - 8.24.2012

1. If you could have been (could be) any profession you wanted (brains and $$$ no problem) what would it be?

I've always said I wanted to be a high school English teacher and be an advisor for student clubs and homecoming and prom. And a track coach and all that fun stuff. And part of me still does.

But, right now I have an awesome job of working with and recruiting students. I'm advising student organizations, helping students get internships and planning events. It's pretty much what I wanted to at the high school level, just at the collegiate level instead. 

When I'm older and have a family I may want those summers off that are currently super busy in this job, so I will probably always hold on to that dream. 

2. How often do you clean out your car?

I try to do it once a month. Always before something big or when I know people are going to be riding with me. I try not to let it get too piled up and I'm usually pretty good about throwing my trash away when I get out, but I tend to collect clothes, shoes, things of that nature in the back seat.

3. Do you wish there was such a thing as fashion police or are you deeply relieved?

I wish there was, it would probably make me step up my game a little bit. And who doesn't love a room full of people that are all dressed well. It just makes me feel like I'm surrounded by people that have their acts together. 

4. What's your go to food/drink/activity when stressed?

Sweets. Cookies, ice cream, junk.

5. If you had twins, what would you name them?

Austin and Boston. :) Just kidding. That's what my BFF was going to name her future twin sons when we were 12 years old! :) 

I would probably do some family names. Nothing that rhymed, but something that sounds good together.

The 'Shoe

As part of staff appreciation week, I got to go on a 'back stage' tour of Ohio Stadium. I've been to the stadium quite a few times, but this was the first time I'd been in the press box or anything like that, so it was pretty cool. We also got to go in the bandroom, which was very cool, and the room where the recruits hang out before and after the game. Awesome!

There is a boy from my high school in OSUMB this year and he's in this picture. In the back though, you can hardly see him.

I got to walk down the tunnel just like the team does! Awww......:)

Can't wait to get that hair cut next week!
