Fire Run 5K

My BFF Erin and I did our first 5K together last Saturday. We ran together in high school and while I quit cross country after one year, she lettered four times. I was such a slacker then. But it's also more fun to run when you're doing it for fun and for your own personal goals than to be doing it competitively and for time.

So anywho, we ran this 5K and it was called the Fire Run, which benifited the local fire departments. Fire departments are near and dear to my heart, because my daddy is our fire chief and so many men in my family have been firemen.

And also because Chicago Fire is my favorite show ever and who doesn't love seeing a hot fireman in uniform. :)

Case in point....
Kelly Severide......love him.

Matthew Casey.....love him too.

And just one more....

(squeeeeel!!)

Unfortunately none of the firemen at the 5K looked like either Lt. Severide or Lt. Casey. :( I mean, not even close.

But, I was there to run, not look at the firemen. And that I did. The route was actually 3.5 miles long, not 3.1. That's a big difference!!!!

We ran the entire time and kept a steady pace. There weren't a ton of people that ran it in and I didn't like the fact that majority of the race we were running on a sidewalk along a busy road - with no signs, so if you were slow you pretty much didn't know where you were headed.

5K complete!!

But other than all that - it was a great run. And after it, Erin and I facetimed Erica in Florida and we have decided that we are going to run a half-marathon either this fall or next winter. It's going to become an annual girls weekend tradition and I'm so excited and looking forward to it! Now, just to decide if we're going to Key West, Savannah or Charleston! (What we narrowed it down to!)

Surprise Shower

Tuesday night we had a suprise shower for a few good friends, Brittany, Jenny and Shannon. We hosted it at Fletcher's house on her new deck and enjoyed cute little boxed lunches, champaign, lemonade and hours of chatting.

Each guest brought three of the same book - one for each lady/baby and they also got a set of blocks from Lindsey.

Blogger Babies.

gifts for the mamas. Which one did I bring?

So if you might be wondering why the sign says "Blogger Babies" that's because most of us me through blogging. Three years ago we all randomly went to a blogger meet up at the Cheesecake Factory. Basically a blind girl date. Then throughout the next year, we started to form friendships with each other and when it came time to meet up again a year later, we all sat together and I think have been doing things together ever since.

These girls aren't even my 'blog friends' they are my in real life friends that I celebrate birthdays with, go to the movies, dinner, house sit and pet sit for. It just so happens that we met through blogging, but blogging is actually the last way we actually communicate these days....especially since some of them don't even blog anymore (I'm talking to you Hance, Perkins and Carlson!!). And since at one point or another we'd all discussed the idea of having a baby shower for some of the girls, we just had one and tricked them into thinking they were getting Chipotle. :)

I made that corn dip and it was delicious.

Drinks on the patio.
Pink Lemonade.
Boxed Dinners.
Too cute.

I have the same lantern and the flower pots are so cute.

Congrats Mamas!

Love these girls!

The group - in the dark. I'm on my tip toes cause Alicia was wearing giant platforms.

the lone picture i was in that night.

Life Lately

Just a post of stuff that isn't big enough for it's own post.

Summer is just flying by. It's already past the middle of June. OSU has been out of school for more than 6 weeks now! Six weeks. That's like almost half of my summer. Not really, but a big portion of it. May was going to be filled with so many fun things and here it is, already gone. But I did get to enjoy May and visiting with those graduating students before they headed out of town for good.

Bowie got put on a diet - apparently I've been feeding her too much. So much more that I thought she had a tumor in her little belly, nope. Just fat. :( She. is. so. hungry! She constantly whines about wanting more food, but is getting better at adjusting to her new smaller portions.

Lately she has loved to sit in my bedroom windows when they're open and watch the birds in the trees outside. It's one of the cutest things ever.  In the mornings she's always sitting by the window waiting for me to unlock it. She'll sit there for a while, then snuggle with me, then go back to the window, then come back to me. Precious. She's just precious.

She's looking a little obese there. Eek!

Last weekend I had a yard sale with Brittany, but unfortunately only made $2.25. All three things that I sold were things that had been given to me by someone who just wanted to get rid of them herself, so I didn't really get rid of anything that I had and wanted to get rid of. Maybe I'll try again in September, then I'm giving it all to Bargain Box! I cannot keep storing stuff forever. I must purge.

That afternoon I finished reading Dominique Moceanu's book at Jill's pool. Working on the tan for vacation and the cruise. Two weeks til one and 40 days til the other!! I cannot wait!!

When my boss came back from chaperoning a study abroad trip, he brought me white chocolate! Straight from London. Awesome boss. Awesome chocolate!!

I have been wanting new wedge sandals and am 98% sure I'm going to get these before I go on vacation, but last week I ran into TJ Maxx and found these black ones and fell in love! :)

There was a pretty sunset in Grandview one night while Stacie and I were walking. Who says the city can't have pretty sunsets?

My fortune from Panda Express. I just wish I knew what decision was going to be.
On June 12, my BFF and her hubby celebrated their third wedding anniversary! It doesn't seem like three years ago - it seems like last summer. Maybe the summer before? Either way, I was so happy to be her maid of honor.

More snuggles with my fat cat.

And this 'perfect' pooch.

And this little boy is getting too big, but I love that when I walk into the room he gives me a big grin! He's the most adorable thing I've ever laid eyes on.

Saturday Erin and I ran in our first 5K together. We didn't stop and our time was around 37 minutes, which I'm fine with considering it was hot, we had to run some hills and the course was actually 3.5 miles instead of 3.1! That is a big difference!!!!!!
It was the "Fire Run" so we posed in front of the fire truck! :)
Some friends of ours have two little kittens living in their garage and I went to visit them over the weekend. How stinking adorable are they? Does anyone want a kitten? They're super friendly and I just want to keep them both. #crazycatlady

Saturday night it was just me and dad at home and we sat in the front yard and watched the cars drive by. In Piketon, that is not very often. :) Very relaxing.

So that kind of wraps up my last few weeks. It's been a much calmer few weeks for me, but I've still been keeping busy between Junior League activities, cross fit, bike rides, runs and walks in the evenings (my favorite!!!)

High Street Lunch #5

On this week's edition of our High Street Lunch Tour, we went to Panda Express. It was new for all three of us. And will probably be an occuring stop for me.

I'm not a huge Chinese fan. I like it on occasion and usually only get it at the mall food courts. That's real Chinese food, right? I thought so. I like to be able to see what I'm getting before I order it. That was my mistake at our first stop this summer, I didn't know what I was ordering and then I got it and it was all sorts of wrong.

But this was delicious. :) It was brown friend rice with veggies and some kind of chicken on top. Jill and I even used our chopsticks for the first half of the meal. We're improving.
My lunch.

And when I got back to lunch, this was in my pinterest feed. I do not take pictures of all of my food, but I do for this HSLT weekly post. Sorry, I'm not sorry.

Last week, we didn't visit a restarant on High Street because it was Jill's birthday. And raining. So we went to Paul's in Grandview. Not at all what I was excpecting it to be like, but I had a delcious chicken salad sandwhich and chocolate pie.

Chicken Salad - yum!

Happy Birthday Jill!

Chocolate Pie - the only kind I like!

Big Bang

Big Bang seems to be to celebrate birthdays when you're turning 28. Or at least it is for my friend Jill and I.

I went back in April the night after my birthday. I was joined by Molly and John and Alicia, Holly and Amber.

I never blogged about this and I'm not sure why, but I had a great time there and the other places we visited later in the evening morning. Minus when I had to get on stage. That was embarrassing. Thanks girls!

a bangin' good time.

For Jill's birthday, she wanted to go to Big Bang as well and I happily agreed. We started with dinner at Boston's. Amazing! I'd never eaten there and it was delish.

Big Bang was lots of fun. We got there early enough to actually get a good high top table, which was prime for people watching. Including the cute boys at the table to our front left. ;)

So glad we're coworkers and friends. :)

The group.
Big Bang is dark and our iPhones don't take good pictures in the dark. :(

Color Mania 5K

I won an entry in the Color Mania 5K through Holly's blog last week. I hadn't planned on running in it, but any chance I have to do a 5K is amazing. Especially for FREE! :) (Thanks Honest Tea!) Unfortunately, I didn't (think) I knew anyone else running, but after a plea for a running partner on facebook, I found out that Tasha was running, so we met up and ran together.

Tasha is married to one of my good friends of high school and even though we have been friends on facebook for the last 4 or 5 years, we've only met a few times. But we have so much in common that it seems like we've been friends forever.

the 'before picture'
I ran in the Color Run last summer and this was very similar, but on a smaller scale. The course was in a parking lot at the state fairgrounds, so there weren't people cheering along the route. No music playing and the color stations weren't defined either. There was no 'blue station' or 'yellow station', you just got whatever color they put on you, which was mostly pink, orange or green.

I got hit right in the face with the green powder at the first station. Right in the face. Thanks lady. It all comes out pretty easily, but I still have a bit of a green scalp. I'm sure it will all be gone with one more wash.

I did fine with the actual running part. We kept it slow and walked a little bit in the middle. I think Tasha said our final time was around 40 minutes, but again, it wasn't a race I was doing for time. It was just for fun. Even with the amount of walking we did, I think that was an ok time. Maybe? :)

The color party after the race.

Tasha sat on the ground. :)

The after picture. Abbie got the pink stuff right in her mouth. Her teeth were covered.

My face on the way home.

Trying to get my whole body. Bowie wanted in the shot too.

Another 5K done. Again, I can't believe I'm running these for fun! But so happy I am.

Pool Party & Memorial Golf Tourney

Last weekend Abra and I had a grand time. On Saturday we went to Sarah's house for a little gathering of college girlfriends and pool time. Most of the girls brought there children, so it was fun to play in the pool with the little kids. It's still so hard to believe that we are old enough to have kids!! Some of my friends have three! THREE children. I have a cat.

But lucky for us, after the pool party was done and everyone went home, Blain had a bunch of his friends (guys!!) over for cornhole and darts and we stayed and had lots of fun with them. :) :) I am awesome at darts. As long as it hits the board and not the wall.

I did not take one picture. :(

On Sunday, Abra had tickets for the Memorial Tournament, so we went to that. Because of the weather, it was set up a little different this year, but it was still fun.

18th Green

We ran in to a few of Abra's friends from high school. I saw Lindsay and Julie & Lee. And we got to see Tiger a few times, even stood right beside him as he walked from the 8th green to the 9th tee. He was not happy. He did really bad.

Tiger waiting.

Tiger watching and waiting.

Tiger going in for the putt.
Yes, I illegally took pictures of Tiger. Arrest me.

Guess who was also at the Memorial? Tim Tebow!!!! I did not see him, but I did stake out Urban Myers house once Lindsay told me she had seen him there. But no luck. I was just excited that we were in the same area. Maybe he will become a coach at OSU since his football career is dunzo. :) I'd be happy with that.

Hanging out on the 12th hole.

The main man Jack (he's sitting by the standing big bellied guy in white/khaki)
I had such a great weekend with Abra hanging out by the pool, in the barn and at the golf course. I couldn't ask for a better place to be right now. I'm beyond blessed.
