Meet Bowie

Late last week I got a new roommate. More like a child, really.

I have always thought kittens were super cute. I had a ton of them at my grandparents farm when I was little. And the bushes in front of my parents house always seemed to be a breeding grounds too. We had Calli (a calico cat, imagine that) when we were little and she was always having kittens in and around our yard. She was a little bit of a fluzey.

A few months ago I started thinking about getting a kitten to have around the house and lots of people said they knew of someone that had a litter, I'd just have to wait, etc. Then I was sooooo close to getting a grown cat from my friend that is moving.

About two weeks ago a college friend posted pictures of stray kittens on facebook and I instantly fell in love with this little calico cat in the picture.

So when her siblings went missing, I told her to snatch that cute little thing up, because I didn't want her to be eaten by something else.

So without further adieu, meet Bowie.

She joined the Virginia Plantation last week. And she's been pretty darn enjoyable and is ultra cute. She's so tiny, too!

I was trying to think of a cute, somewhat meaningful name for her and I settled on Bowie for two reasons:

I wanted the name to be meaningful. I like stories behind names (including human names, that's why I love Sarah Palin's kids' names). So I kind of wanted them to be "Ohio State-ish" because I did spend four years there, but I didn't want to name her Buckeye or Brutus, because everyone and their brother have a dog named that. I love how my friend Lauren named her two super cute dogs Annie and Ellie after Ann Hayes (Woody's wife) and Ellen Tressel (Jimmy's wife). So they're Ohio State-ish, but not straight up "Buckeye."


And I also have this thing for Tim Tebow. I think he's a super classy guy. Awesome football player and an all around good guy, great role model. He doesn't let others or the media influence his beliefs and he's pretty dang hot too. But again, I didn't want to call her "Tebow." That's not very girly.

So factoring in Ohio State and Tim Tebow, I came up with Bowie (since Ohio State's president E. Gordan Gee wears a bow tie every day). And because I saw this adorable youtube video last year that makes Bowie a legit name. #perf

We went to the vet for the first time last night. I was completely thrilled with the vet appointment, so I may be going somewhere else in the future, but for now he said she was completely healthy - no AIDS, cat cancer or parasites. Next time we go back she'll be getting shots.

And she weighs 1.1 pounds. She is a tiny thing!

And my sister and all of her friends and all of the students in my department are making fun of me for being a crazy cat lady. Oh well. She's my first pet ever!
