So over the past few weeks I've really gotten into redecorating my place. When I first moved in almost two years ago, I thought it would be a temporary living space until I moved into a bigger house. Well, two years later I am still living here and rather than treat it like a temporary dorm, I'm making it my own home. Not just an apartment, a home. For me. That I love.
Bedroom
I've done small projects here and there, but I decided to do a major overhaul on my bedroom. This is the one room that I've never touched. I added a rug and a new comforter last spring, but the closet was a disaster packed full of boxes and I have no functional clothing storage in my room at all.
My room in December 2011. I made the headboard from lumber and old fabric, but really want a new bed.
So I decided randomly while at church one Sunday that I was going to paint my bedroom walls. I literally stopped at Home Depot on my way home and purchased a gallon of green paint. I figured green would make the then tan-y walls look brighter. And it would go with both my white/purple comforter or the green/blue one I have at home.
I'm kind of a busy girl these days, so I painted my room a little bit at a time over a two week period. Usually for about an hour block sometime between 9pm and midnight. That's the only time I'm home!!
Kind of a before picture. See the yucky colors of the walls.
The dark corner. I really need an overhead light in this room.
First coat on the walls. I only had a roller, so I couldn't do the trip right away.
All finished. Well....the painting is.
My walls and headboard are currently the same color. I guess I must have liked that color since I was not looking at the fabric when I picked out the paint. It is just temporary though, since I hope to have a bed soon that will have a headboard attached.
I'm also wanting to get a swag pendent light to hang since there isn't an overhead light in this room, so if you know of a cute one, let me know. I'm thinking of an old brass chandelier and painting it a really cool color to hang. And if you know of someone that is handy with electrical stuff and could wire one up for me, that would be swell too.
Planting Flowers
My family has always been big on planting flowers. I've always had pots full of them and growing up in Casa de Wickham, there is always a color theme. And everyone knows I love a color theme.
Last year I went with a pink/white theme. This year I saw these really pretty turquoise pots at Walmart and decided that purple would be the flower color I went with this year.
Thanks Mommy for getting me these pretty purple flowers.
Flower box planted.
They look really little, so I need to get a stand or a box for them to sit on.
Desk Chair
Right after I moved in almost two years ago, my mom insisted I needed chairs. So she bought four that look just like this at a yard sale. So I had four dining room chairs, these four chairs, two chairs in my living room, four folding chairs for my card table, a rolly desk chair and a couch. Needless to say, I had lots of places to sit. Just not enough butts to fill all of them.
The first of these chairs that I used broke last fall as I was sitting in it. I'm pretty sure I was on the phone as it happened. Go ahead and insert a joke about me breaking the chair. Molly and Kristin took the other two and they have since broken, but for some reason, this one is holding up strong.
Last Sunday evening, I painted it turquoise. I had to give it a few coats throughout the last few days to make sure it was nice and covered. I think it turned out so nicely.
Other projects in the future months - painting my bathroom and kitchen (I'm thinking grey!) and painting my desk and dining room table (white!).
I'm just being so self-dependent and I love it. These are definitely projects I have put on hold waiting for someone to do them with. It feels good to accomplish things on your own without help.
